O2 Energies to build solar farm near Rockwell
About 150 sheep will graze on the grass that will grow under and around the solar panels at O2 Energies’ $10 million, 4.25-megawatt solar farm near Rockwell. Use of livestock from local farms and other sustainable agricultural methods are part of the company’s commitment to the local community. That also includes hiring local labor, renting equipment locally and obtaining financing through a local bank.
This installation will be O2 Energies 11th solar farm. The company has seven in operation and three others under construction. The solar farm will add $2 million to the local tax base but use no services like schools, water or sewer. The project will create about 50 construction jobs. O2 Energies partners with local schools and has developed a six-week science course that includes a field trip to one of the company’s solar farms.
According to its website, O2 Energies is an independent power producer that develops, owns and operates solar farms across the Southeast. Its projects are developed to maximize local jobs and local investment while enhancing sustainability and educational opportunities in each project community.
