New Eagle Ford shale rigs bring jobs

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Despite oil prices below $43 per barrel, the number of active rigs in the Eagle Ford shale region south of San Antonio grew to 101, reversing a two-week trend of declines. The new rigs are estimated to have created 672 jobs in the area.

The report was released by Baker Hughes, which releases rig count data on a weekly basis. A barometer of oil drilling activity worldwide, a recent study by the University of Houston concluded that each new drilling rig creates a total of 224 jobs, both on and off the drilling pad.
